Rose Blanche Green-Booth

April 14, 1924 - February 11, 2020

Rose Blanche Green Booth April 14, 1924 – February 11, 2020 Rose Green Booth died of colon cancer on February 11, 2020, in Mission Commons in Redlands. Rose, the 4th of 5 children, was born on a farm in central Wisconsin to Czechoslovakian immigrants. Her father died in a farm accident when she was 5, so the family moved to south Chicago. There on Ave. G, Rose became one of the youngest in a blended family with 6 stepbrothers and stepsisters. When she was 10, she met a funny boy, who slapped a “kick me” sign on her back. Richard Green and Rose would graduate from Bowen High School in Chicago. He would serve as a radio operator in World War II, while she would work as a secretary for Swift & Co. Innocently, she explained that she worked in the “red light” district, but her boss told her not to use that term because it didn’t describe her job! They married as soon as Richard returned from the war. Rose and Richard moved to Plover, Wisconsin, so Richard could attend Stevens Point Teachers’ College. While he was getting his teaching credentials in math, they were starting a family. Two children, Judy and Rick, were born while they were in Plover. Three children, David, Jeannie and Jackie, were born in Gillette, Wisconsin, while Richard taught math. Two more children, Tim and Bob, were born in Racine, Wisconsin, where Richard taught at Park High. Rose had 7 children in 8 years. Neighbors joked that you could see when Richard went to summer school by the gap in their ages. Rose was passionate about her children’s education. While Richard was pursuing his master’s degree in mathematics at the University of Wisconsin in Madison, Rose was active in the parents’ group of Andrew Henry School, a one-room schoolhouse the children attended in Verona, Wisconsin. When the family moved to San Bernardino, California, Rose became active in the PTA at Warm Springs Elementary School. As the family grew, so did Rose’s involvement from Warm Springs PTA to St. Anne’s School Parent Teacher Group. Rose was the first adult advisor of St. Anne’s Catholic Youth Organization. She oversaw Catholic Youth Organization activities, providing a safe place for teenagers to get together. Her favorite CYO activity was the annual camping trip to Joshua Tree. She wrangled food, equipment, and transportation for her group of 30 teenagers. Rose ran the office of the Fifth District PTA in Grand Terrace. She went from PTA volunteer to the only paid worker in the office. Upon retirement, Rose and Richard moved to the high desert community of Landers. Rose and Richard were active in life at the Landers Community Center and were founding members of the group that built the Landers Community Park. In Landers, Rose enjoyed a love of handicrafts. Here she did crocheting, fabric painting, plate decorating, beading, and jewelry-making. Rose lived in her desert house on Inca Trail until she was 80 years old, 16 years after Richard died. In 2005, Rose moved to Mission Commons in Redlands, California. She loved crafting and being a part of the social gatherings there. It was there that she met David Booth. They were married in 2010 at The Village in Redlands, where they lived until moving back to Mission Commons. David died in May, 2014. To know Rose was to know compassion, kindness, and gentleness. Her loving spirit touched everyone around her. She was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother dedicated to her family. Although she had many grandchildren, each of them shared their own bond with her that was unique to them. She made everyone feel special. Rose Green Booth was preceded in death by her sisters Blanche, Elsie, and Marie, her brother Robert, and husbands Richard and David. She lost a beloved grandson, Cody James Green, in 2018. Rose is survived by 7 children: Judy Green Kellam of Nordland, WA; Richard Green of San Clemente, CA; David Green of Big Bear City, CA; Jeannie Green Smith of Redlands, CA; Jackie Green Huffstutler of Naples, FL; Tim Green of Hemet, CA; and Robert Green of Pioneertown, CA. She leaves 16 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. The services for Rose Green Booth will be at the Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church on Friday, February 21st. The rosary will begin at 10:30 a.m., the funeral mass at 11:00. Internment at Montecito Cemetery will follow the mass. END.
