Joyce Carlson Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Joyce Carlson, 89, of Redlands, California, passed away on June 3, 2022 just two days short of her 90th birthday celebration. Joyce was born on June 5, 1932 to Robert and Gretta Peet in Anamosa, Iowa. She graduated from high school in 1950. Shortly after, she met Bob Carlson and they wed in 1952. In 1955, Joyce and Bob moved to Redlands, California where they raised their two sons, Dennis and Ron. During those years, Joyce worked as an accountant for the Redlands School District. Joyce was a life-long learner. When her sons were grown, she retired from the school district and began to pursue her interest in visual arts. She started with a single watercolor class where, as Joyce said, she “found her passion.” She continued her training at the Redlands Adult School and Riverside Community College, as well as taking regular workshops in oils, pastels, and even metalworking. Eventually, Joyce expanded her considerable painting skills to jewelry design. She was an active member of the Redlands Art Association and participated in several regional art shows including Art in the Park, Red Dirt, and the YMCA Holiday Boutique. Joyce was also an enthusiastic traveler. She and Bob took numerous trips throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe. Many of her watercolor paintings represent favorite locations and memories from her time away from home. Though she’s gone, Joyce’s spirit will continue to inspire. She was vibrant, elegant, loving, generous, creative, supportive, and quick to laugh. She is survived by her siblings Don (Jan) and Helen (Ron); her sons Dennis (Mary) and Ron; her grandchildren Amy (Joey), Grace (Blake), Hannah, and Max; her step-grandchildren Katiedan (Conner), Drew (Stephanie), and Charlie; her great grandchildren Josephine, Abe, and Griffin; her step-great grandchildren Ezra and Ty; and several rescue dogs who always found a welcoming spot next to her on the sofa. A memorial for Joyce will be held on Friday, June 10 at 11:00 AM at the Cortner Chapel, 221 Brookside Avenue in Redlands. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Joyce’s life. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Redlands Art Association.
