Edward Sung Kyu Loh

July 12, 1934 - September 23, 2020

Edward S. Loh, MD of Solana Beach, California passed away peacefully on September 23, 2020. Born in South Korea, he was the first of 6 children. After escaping capture during the Korean war, he came to the United States at age 18. He received his undergraduate degree and medical degree from the University of Minnesota and completed his residency in Pennsylvania where he met Suzanne, his beloved wife of 53 years, who preceded him in death by 9 months. They married in Pennsylvania and came to California to raise their family. Ed was known for his generosity toward others. He routinely traveled back to Korea to support the faculty at Seoul National University Medical School. Ed always said the two most influential people in his career were Dr. Neal Gault, former Dean of the University of Minnesota Medical School, and Dr. Kenneth Ghormley of Redlands. Dr. Ghormley recruited Ed to the Beaver Medical Clinic and they became life-long friends. Ed enjoyed a successful 35-year career as a Urologist and surgeon; Seven years after he retired, he was ranked one of the best Urologists in Southern CA by U.S. News & World Report. Ed is survived by his daughter Susan of Laguna Niguel, son Scott of Monarch Beach, and grandchildren Madelyn (17) and Kai (10). The family will have a private memorial service on October 2, 2020.
