Betty J. Holcomb Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

November 23, 1929 - May 27, 2022 Our mother Betty Jean Holcomb passed away peacefully at 92 1/2 years of age, after a long-lived and well-loved life. Betty was born in Centralia Illinois into a family of her father Baptist Minister William Freeman Privett, her mother Katholeen Morrison Privett, her younger sister Wilma and younger brother Robert. They moved many times based on their father’s ministries and pastorships mostly in Illinois and Nebraska, finally settling in Alton, Illinois. Our mother met our father David Greenfield Holcomb at Shurtleff College in Alton, now Southern Illinois University. After they both graduated, our parents married in 1950 and moved to Southern California, where Betty started her elementary school teaching career. First daughter Melody was born August of 1956 in Torrance California. After moving to Redlands California, second daughter Heather was born in July of 1960. Betty and David continued their elementary school teaching careers in the Coachella Valley desert. Our home town was always Redlands, where weekends and summers were spent operating their three apartment buildings and four rental homes that they owned. In retirement Betty and David loved to spend time in their vacation homes in Palm Desert, Lake Arrowhead and Hawaii. Our mother loved to collect antiques and sew quilts. After our father passed away in 2004, Betty married long time friend Theo Hulcy who passed away in 2009. Betty is survived by her sister Wilma Searcy; her two daughters, Melody Holcomb and Heather Mix; and five grandchildren Corey, Ariel, Katholeen, Jacqueline and Thomas. We will all miss her! Betty was predeceased by her parents, her brother Robert Privett, and her husbands David Holcomb and Theo Hulcy. There will be a grand reunion in heaven! A private funeral service will be held at Cortner Chapel in Redlands California.
